Highway Miles

Just a quick update to share some “real world” highway experience with my JLU Rubicon on my recent work trip down to RTP. I hate waiting at airports and all the delays that happen this time of the year. Door to door from my house is about 8 hours even so it sometimes works out about the same as flying down when you factor in all time and time lost at the airport. As a bonus, I then have my Jeep to drive around for the week verse a rental car and I get .53 cents per mile so it’s win/win all around!

Now the real reason for my post is to share what a pleasure the drive down was, there is really no comparison between what my 2014 JKU with the V6 drove like and what my new JLU Rubicon with the 4 cylinder engine did on the highway. For comparison, both have 4.10 gears and both are running 285x70x17 tires. My JKU had about 72k miles on it and the JLU Rubicon had 1000 so that is definitely a factor but even New, the JKU never felt as comfortable on the road and it was just a Sport S.

As you can see from the picture, I was able to drive 70 miles per hour at about 2000 RPMs while averaging 22.5 MPG! That is a huge improvement over my JKU. I was typically seeing about 17 MPG on the highway at 65 MPH and dropped from there as I got closer to 70 MPH. The noise levels between the two are also quite different and both have soft tops. The JLU Rubicon has a much better sound system and I love the leather seats. All in all, this is a much more refined Jeep than what I had before and I am really looking forward to taking it to the Jeep Jamboree in May!
